Little Box, Big Tree

This year, we have vowed to spend more of our Christmas dollars at small local shops.
Over 200 local Portland merchants have joined forces, with the Little Boxes campaign.
To kick off the holiday weekend you picked up a game card from one of the merchants. Then, you visited as many of the shops listed as you wished and got your game card stamped with each purchase.

Each shop also had a raffle and the more stamps you got on your card, the more discounts you received!
Once you were all shopped out on Saturday, you turned in your card at the last store visited, for chances to win grand prizes, like a trip to Hawaii!

You could also play along on your smart phone!

We had a relaxing and fun shopping experience. We found lots of eclectic, personal and fun gifts and discovered some new little shops.
Do you have some favorite small / local stores you like to shop during the Holidays?

We also cut our Christmas tree.
Mom says it has to stay in the barn overnight, because it is wet.

She said I should stay out there with the tree, because I am wet too.....
"VERY FUNNY...NOT!"

  2. Fun way to shop, and support the little guys. But, we hope your parents don't win a trip to Hawaii--we hope they win something they can enjoy with you!

  12. That sounds like a great idea. If one has to go shopping at all, then the little local ones are definitely the best!

  13. We do lots of business with local services, resturaunts, and produce suppliers when they are in season. However, there aren't that many local shops here anymore that sell gift type items. Last year I had to do jury duty in one of my favorite small town shopping locales and was so disappointed that so many of the amazing retail shops were gone!!!! I had promised myself the reward of shopping after a hard days work of sitting on hard benches being told I wasn't needed.

I'd love to participate in something like this, but I think we'd have to go to another area to try it.

  16. What a wonderful idea. We try to do that too - the town I grew up never seems to have business that last long, but we always try to keep them going.
